Empowering CKD Patients and Families Through Education, Advocacy, and Community Support
In a meaningful effort to bring hope, awareness, and life-saving information to individuals affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), the Kidney Transplant Association of the Philippines (KITAP), in collaboration with the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) and its Inter-Hospital Partners, successfully conducted the lay forum titled “Handog Mo, Buhay Ko: Pag-asa Para sa Bawat Isa” at Sorsogon Provincial Hospital.
The event gathered CKD patients, kidney transplant recipients, family members, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders to promote greater understanding of kidney health, organ donation, transplantation, and patient support services.
A Platform for Learning and Hope
Chronic Kidney Disease continues to affect thousands of Filipino families, creating challenges not only for patients but also for their loved ones. Recognizing the need for accessible health education, the forum served as a platform where participants gained valuable insights from medical experts and patient advocates regarding kidney disease prevention, treatment options, dialysis, transplantation, and the importance of organ donation.
Healthcare professionals from NKTI shared evidence-based information and answered questions from attendees, helping patients and families make informed decisions about their health journey.
Promoting Organ Donation Awareness
A key highlight of the forum was the discussion on organ donation and kidney transplantation. Participants learned how organ donation can transform lives and provide renewed hope for patients suffering from end-stage kidney disease.
The campaign theme, “Handog Mo, Buhay Ko”, reflects the profound impact that a single act of generosity can have on another person’s life. Through educational discussions and patient testimonies, attendees gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of becoming advocates for organ donation within their communities.
Strengthening Community Partnerships
The success of the event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of NKTI, KITAP, Sorsogon Provincial Hospital, and various inter-hospital partners committed to advancing kidney health awareness across the Philippines.
This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing public health challenges and ensuring that accurate information and support services reach communities outside major urban centers.
Supporting CKD Patients and Their Families
Beyond medical information, the forum emphasized the importance of emotional, social, and community support for CKD patients and their relatives. Participants were encouraged to build networks of support, seek guidance from healthcare providers, and engage with patient organizations that can assist them throughout their treatment and recovery journey.
By empowering patients and families with knowledge, resources, and encouragement, the initiative aims to improve health outcomes and enhance the quality of life for individuals living with kidney disease.
Continuing the Mission of Hope
As KITAP, NKTI, and their healthcare partners continue their advocacy efforts, initiatives like “Handog Mo, Buhay Ko: Pag-asa Para sa Bawat Isa” serve as reminders that hope, compassion, and education can change lives.
Through ongoing community outreach, patient education programs, and organ donation awareness campaigns, the organizations remain committed to creating a future where every Filipino affected by kidney disease has access to information, support, and opportunities for a healthier life.
Together, we can inspire hope, promote organ donation, and build stronger communities that support every patient’s journey toward healing and recovery.
